Commemorating the centenary of the Battle of La Lys, we should think about the causes that lead to the WWII. And the Versailles Treaty, bringing WWI to an end, at the same time was the seed for the WWII, fueled by the intransigence of France and England, mostly France creating all kinds of obstacles to the German sovereignty and the brutally imposed debt as compensations for the WWI. How the Franco-German axis could help Europe integration will remain for now another mystery of our times…
I was raised in Africa, and those who knows me well recognize in me the craziness of the character of someone well acquainted with the savanna, the loneliness, the dryness, the wild life, the red sunsets, the ochre soil, the infinite ocean that suddenly appears after a long walk inside the country. The propensity to love infinitely. The eagerness to find the absolute. Living in Europe, I always find myself confronted with the need to be a god, someone without flows, someone without dreams or a selfish wish to dictate my own destiny. I ate the cloudiness o the civilized state, always prone to destroy you just to put their seed inside your brain. For example, when I was a young boy, I loved science since everywhere we could find an explanation of the mechanism of clouds formation, why radio waves reflected on the F2 layer of the ionosphere, how submarines, airplanes, locomotives work, how you could build a radio to communicate with aliens imprisoned inside the caves of the CIA. Now, what we see is selling mobiles, applications, faster computers, and quantum entanglement, although nobody really understands how stuff works. When we talk about politics we realize that our economic destiny is at the hands of people not prepared to the liberation day. In my time, we were inspired by the French old music, by the English Encyclopedias, by the Portuguese dream of a peaceful, wonderful Masonic Empire. So, I decided to leave all my previous life as an old chapter of my life and leave to Zanzibar. I found three beautiful black women ready to accept a white man as their husband and with all what is necessary to feed them and possible kids to born. I will live at the center of the three huts where my wives (beautiful or not) will sleep and retire after the typical activities taken during the sunny african day time while I will sleep below a relatively thin but tall tree. During the day I will visit the small villages along my way, talk to people as all of them were old friends (I was raised by them when I was a child), behave like an old European shaman, a crazy man listening the old French music and write, write as in my old days other unknown people tried to decipher the mystery of life. What else am I missing?
A friend of mine, Bulgarian, told me she had received the day before a phone call during a short stay in Sofia, asking her 10,000 euros to be paid the same day, otherwise, she would be killed. She reassured me, this is very common nowadays in Bulgaria. Even so, she told me to prefer to return to Bulgaria instead to stay in this country where I live now. Because, there, she still have longtime friends that cherish her, always concerned about her, and here, she has none. That sad account makes me think a lot about the European life. I lived for about eight years in France before coming to Portugal, and it was a marvelous experience, indeed. France has a powerful culture and very exigent academia where I improved my scientific skills. However, already several decades before (that I know) and until today, France entertains a very difficult relationship with foreigners, in particular, those, poor, from Arabian and African cultures, that are marginalized and resentful, living on the outskirts of the big cities like Paris… French, in general, tend to assume themselves superior to others, and treat them like that, with the exception of English, USA citizens, Germans and alike, in regard to which they feel equal. When I returned from France, still in my twenties, I had a lot of troubles to adapt and mingle in this country. We needed to become part of a group of other young, to be accepted by them, otherwise, we would stay alone. During the period of time I was attempting to be accepted by a normalized social group of other young people, I had the opportunity to mingle with some crazy friends, nymphomaniacs, artist, and expats like me, which make me more sensitive to the social problem (at least I felt their affection and attentive care). The truth is that still today, it is virtually impossible to make friends in Portugal and I now I understand why a friend of mine said shockingly to us one day, to the “group of friends”, and in a dramatic vibration: ” I have no friends!”. They are unable to relate as friends, I mean with authentic affection because for them life is a Darwinian struggle. They have relationships, supposedly to be socially necessary, regardless the meaning of the word. Nevertheless, they adore foreigners from well-developed countries, maybe to hide the repulsive inner forces that they dedicate to themselves. Of course, all this is so weird that nobody talks about. Especially social scientists. Europe is supposedly a continent that gave to the world a lots of scientists, philosophers, and political scientists, but as a matter of fact, Europe is a tremendously racist continent (very diligently hidden but ready to reappear if necessary as we may infer by the actual fascist drift…) that gave to the world two bloody, absolutely destructive world wars and, if possible, will give a third… And the great empires. Life can be so uncomfortable that they discovered a “New World” and are ready to kill themselves trying to live on Mars. How is it possible, being the supposedly cultured, enlightened, progressive, continent? Of course, the discussion of these issues are not comfortable for the majority and, therefore, the social problem is never well-posed…
In face of all these (hidden) facts, my interpretation differs from the mainstream historians. I sustain that the reason why Europe was so creative in arts, literature, philosophy, science and alike is due not to a supposed outstanding civilizational conditions of existence, but instead, being prone to the most wild instincts, Europe gave birth to an outstanding horde of philosophers, writers, scientists and social visionaries in a desperate attempt to understand the horrible destiny of this continent.
I was lucky (until now…) in my life, despite the dramatic views I had lived, and tragic moments I witnessed, of the falling (Portuguese and English) empires, in particular, of the fascist regime prevailing in Portugal and colonies until 1974. I was a kid at that period of time, but I was enough aware of the unbearable conditions imposed to those living in Africa, not alone to africain people but also white people. For example, the spouse of John Kerry, Teresa Kerry, who was also born in Mozambique, still holds as a remnant of the past, the passport issued by the fascist colonial power, stating that she was a “second class” Portuguese citizen. What make me understand the unbearable situation was a resisting (now deceased) uncle of mine that was sympathetic with socialism, particularly after reading Jacques Soustelle book “Lettre ouvert aux victimes de la decolonisation (1973)”. There was a time when I was a kid and despite that I was obliged to go to my school Saturday morning to sing our national anthem accompanied by the Nazi salutation, as being part (naturally forced) of the “Mocidade Portuguesa” (Portuguese Youth). How I hated that regime! How I loved the Mozambicain independence from that white people (to which I pertain…)! They were elitist (without the supposedly required qualities), they were arrogant, they were brutal, and, above all, they used to act “united” like a beam, like a “facho”, like a torch… (Despite the dramatic war for the independence from the colonial powers, Africa is at the hands of incompetents, brutal governments, unfortunately).
Still to this day, I dislike anything that looks like a “facho”, I hate the denial of freedom to act like an individual, I demand the right to have my own ideas and actions (provided that no body is in prejudice). Sometimes I feel the set of that mood, the return of the witchcraft atmosphere, the reborn fascist mind. I despise anyone that, facing an immoral choice, says “we need to stick together!” That is the essence of fascism, that naturally serves well all those that are not brave enough to stay as an individual defending what is right, what is true. Humanity can only progress with different sort of people, not with “fachos”. A torch was made to disintegrate matter… Increasing diversity saves lives. I know something about that matter.
And against alarmists, and all the forces wanting to enslave others to their own benefit, UK economy is becoming stronger than expected… «Britain appears to be bouncing back from the post-Brexit panic in better shape than expected, after a string of indicators showed growth across the manufacturing sector, the building industry and in consumer spending.»
