«The secret of happiness is freedom,
and the secret of freedom is courage» – Thucydides (471 BC-400 BC)
The human condition is tragic. Humans have a tendency for destruction. This is a fact that we have to face, according to Thucydides, who puts a divise between the pursuit of virtue and the pursuit of freedom. If we follow Thucydides, freedom is the goal we must pursue, facing the different and complex ways each one has to follow in order to achieve it. It is common opinion that the past affects the present and the future, even imposes to us the inevitable, but Thucydides argues that there is still room for action because he attempt to given an answer to the question «Can we do something to contrary a tendency to our destruction?».
